BYU vs. Utah, Scanning (again), and Query Letter Ideas

The big rivalry game that is so integral to my November is here already…It’s early in the season this year.  The tension really isn’t in this one.  Both teams lost last week, so maybe they’ll both play with a chip on their shoulder(s?).  So there’s that.  But still, this year is kind of….well…blah.  Still I hope BYU wins by at least 100 points.  There is no such thing as winning by too much against Utah.

It’s Saturday and we spent a quiet morning/day at home…soccer games were canceled (thank you, Mother Nature/Rain).  I also flaked out on my Assistant Principal duties at RJHS with the old “soccer” excuse (before I knew the games were cancelled–in my defense)…So I’m scanning Stacy’s SD (Scripture Doodle) images as we speak, listening to some Jack Johnson and reading a little about writing query letters off the “Writer’s Market” website.

Everyone talks about how “huge” and “important” and “absolutely essential” the query letter is.  Makes sense to me–it’s like a cold call.  How many of those have I hung up on?  Now imagine getting “cold calls” all day every day from nobody’s like me…better have a good pitch and get it in fast…that’s what I learned from today’s publishing/internet research.

Some ideas:   a trojan horse virus that shuts down every file but your query on the opener’s computer…..huh? I know, brilliant.  Or there’s this one–a musical query.  I write a song on the old guitar, record it, and send it as an attachment….no?  Maybe a bit labor-intensive.   I don’t know.  I guess I’ll stick with the old “letter” idea.  I think I’ll only send emails, though.  Oh who am I kidding….I’ll do whatever those people want.  I just can’t wait to get something finished.

A Goal, then: By my next post I will have an end for Tough Charlie that I’m proud of (and I’ll give you a little preview of who he really is).  I will also do a little work on his “Page” on this site….and I will compose my first query letter for Tough Charlie….

To recap– and ending, some preview and a query…..that’s a big goal.  The next post might be next month….

Inbetween Scans…

Tonight’s a Scripture Doodle night (from now on, referred to as SD).  So I’ll take a sec inbetween image scans to write. The goal is to have several things ready to send to publishers as soon as possible.  I’ve had about seven projects in my head for about seven years.  It’s time to do something about it.  I’ve been reading several articles on the publishing process lately, and since I’m new, and I don’t yet know what I don’t know…it all seems very daunting.  Still, I think it’s important to beleive in your product–our stuff is great.  Who wouldn’t buy it?  Now….several more images to scan…I’m out.
